What Is a Power Track and How Does It Work?

A conventional wall socket gives you power at a fixed point. A Power Track is installed along a wall, backsplash or cabinet line and carries power along its length. Track Sockets clip onto the track, so a socket can be added, removed or moved to a different position without rewiring the track itself.

The result is a single power line that can follow how a space is actually used, such as a kitchen worktop, a kitchen island, a desk or a living-room wall, rather than being limited to the positions chosen when the walls were built.

reTOUCH Power Track Series

reTOUCH has three main Power Track series. Each uses the same idea, a track with clip-on Track Sockets, but they differ in construction, load indication and profile. The comparison table below summarises the confirmed differences.

Dust Proof Series

The Dust Proof Series is built around reTOUCH's Dust-Proof Resistance track design. It is available as a surface-mounted track or a concealed (flush-mounted) track, so the installation can follow the way the wall or cabinet is finished.

Choose the Surface version when the track will be fixed on the face of a wall or cabinet. Choose the Conceal version when you want it set flush and can prepare a cut-out during renovation or carpentry.

Watt Guardian

reTOUCH Watt Guardian Power Track adds a colour-coded load indicator and automatic overload cut-off to the track, so users can see roughly how heavily the track is being used.

• Power is cut off automatically above 32A

The indicator shows the current load range. The cut-off is overload (overcurrent) protection. It is not surge protection and should not be understood as protection against voltage surges.

ARC Slim

reTOUCH ARC Slim Power Track is a slim Power Track developed for modern interior integration. It uses a 13mm aluminium profile with curved ends, and it has its own range of ARC Slim Track Sockets.

Which Power Track Should You Choose?

There is no single answer for every room. Start with the factors below, then match them to the series that fits.

• Installation type: surface-mounted, or flush-mounted into a prepared cut-out.
• Space: how much wall, backsplash or counter-edge space is available for the track.
• Visual preference: a slim visible line, or a track set flush with the surface.
• Load awareness: whether you want an indicator showing how heavily the track is used.
• Flexibility and length: where sockets will need to move, and the track length required.
• Socket requirements: 13A sockets, USB charging, or both.

Kitchen countertop

Several appliances are often used at once, so consider how many will share the track and how long a track you need along the worktop. The Dust Proof Series (Surface or Conceal) suits a worktop where the track will be fixed in place, and Watt Guardian is worth considering if you want to see the load range while appliances are running.

Kitchen island

An island offers fewer fixed power points, so the position of the track and the cabinet construction matter. A Conceal track can sit flush if the island can be prepared during fabrication, while a surface track is easier to add to an existing island.

Living room

For a TV wall or console, appearance usually matters as much as capacity. ARC Slim’s 13mm profile is designed to keep the track visually light, and the Conceal version of the Dust Proof Series is an option when the wall can be prepared.

Office or meeting room

Meeting rooms and desks often need many devices charged at once, so think about the number of sockets, whether USB Track Sockets are useful, and how the layout may change. Watt Guardian’s load indicator can help where several users share one track.

Commercial and project applications

For shops, offices and project work, the key questions are track length, total expected load, the installation method on site and the finish required. What is a Power Track?

A Power Track is a flexible electrical power distribution system. Compatible Track Sockets are positioned along the track wherever power is needed, instead of relying only on fixed wall sockets.

How does a Power Track work?

The track is installed on or into a wall, cabinet or similar surface and supplied with power. Track Sockets clip onto the track at the position you choose. Installation should follow the instruction supplied with the product and be carried out by a qualified person.

Is a Power Track suitable for a kitchen?

Can Track Sockets be repositioned?

Yes. Track Sockets can be added, removed or moved along a compatible Power Track.

What does 32A / 8000W mean?

32A is the rated current of the track and 8000W is its maximum load. The 8000W figure corresponds to 32A at the 250V upper end of the 220V–250V range. It is the capacity of the track, so the combined load of the appliances connected to it should stay within it.

What is the difference between Dust Proof, Watt Guardian and ARC Slim?

The Dust Proof Series is built around Dust-Proof Resistance and is available as Surface or Conceal. Watt Guardian adds a colour-coded load indicator and an automatic overload cut-off above 32A. ARC Slim is a 13mm aluminium Power Track designed for modern interior integration, with its own Track Socket range. See the comparison table above.
